How long do Berkey filters last? +
Each pair of Black Berkey Purification Elements can filter approximately 6,000 gallons of water. For a typical family of four, that's roughly 5 years of daily use before needing replacement.
Do I need the fluoride filters? +
The PF-2 Fluoride & Arsenic Reduction Filters are optional add-ons that attach beneath the Black Berkey Elements. If your local water supply adds fluoride, we recommend adding them. Each set handles up to 1,000 gallons.
Which Berkey size should I get? +
The Big Berkey (2.25 gal) is the most popular and serves 1-4 people. The Royal Berkey (3.25 gal) is great for families of 4-6. When in doubt, size up — a bigger system just means less frequent refilling, and the filters last the same number of gallons regardless of system size.
Are Berkey filters still available? +
Yes. While Berkey is involved in an ongoing legal matter with the EPA regarding filter classification, systems continue to ship with filters. We also carry the new Phoenix replacement filters as an alternative option. Contact us for the most current availability on any specific product.
